Document Style Conventions

This document contains a number of style conventions designed to make it easier to use. Different typefaces differentiate between things like screen messages and operator entries. The following sections describe the style conventions used.

Notes

Notes of special interest are set off from the text within horizontal rules:

Note. Notes provide information that is important enough to demand special attention. The information may be relevant to the current discussion but awkward to include without disrupting the flow of information.

Mouse and Keyboard Notation

The following conventions are used in the text:

Combinations of modifier keys are also possible.

Menu Notation

Menu items that are preceded and followed by a period have multiple selections, which you select by clicking left, middle, or right on the mouse. (The different options are shown on the mouse documentation line, displayed at the bottom of the screen.)

Using the Tablet and Mouse

N-Paint can be configured to recognize a table or a mouse. Commands for both appear in various places in this guide. Table 2 provides a concordance between mouse and tablet commands.

Note: To use the middle and right mouse buttons, you must have Use Mouse Buttons enables in the N-Paint setup menus. For more information about configuring N-Paint for use with a mouse or tablet, see the N-Paint Installation Guide, and "Use Mouse Buttons," on page 2-4 of this guide.
Note. Using the tablet too close to a monitor may cause interference with the tablet itself. If the tablet seems to have trouble responding to your input, try moving it a bit further away from your monitor.
