Hot Keys


N-Geometry supports a variety of hot keys, single key commands that perform an operation.

Hot Key Purpose Description
0 (zero)

Aim at origin.

Moves the camera so that it is pointing at the global origin.

CTRL-r

Reinitialize
camera.

Reinitialize the camera. This is not the same as setting the camera to its initial view, which is done through the Camera>Views menu.

a

Aim at selected element

Repositions the camera so that it is aimed at the currently selected element. If a collection of elements is selected, the camera is aimed at the midpoint of the collection.

CTRL-a

Aim at selected element, filling the view.

As for "a" above, but also zooms as necessary so that the selected element(s) fill the view screen.

b

Make bodies
sensitive.

Highlights bodies in the element sensitivity menu.

CTRL-b

Select current element's body.

Displays a prompt, asking if you want to select the body to which the currently selected element belongs.

c

Toggle collect mode.

Highlights collect in the Element Sensitivity menu at the top of the view window. When turned on, additional elements selected are added to the vurrent collection. (CLICK-R) on the view window when you have collected all the elements you want to select.

Make faces
sensitive.

Highlights faces in the element sensitivity menu.

p or v

Make points
sensitive.

Highlights points in the element sensitivity menu.

s

Make segments sensitive.

Highlights segments in the element sensitivity menu.

o

Orthographic/
perspective
toggle.

Lets you select which mode used to view a scene.

(SHIFT-O)

Make objects
sensitive

Higlights objects in the element sensitivity menu.

x

View the scene from the +X axis.

Aligns the camera so that it is pointing along the positive X axis (from the "front" of the scene).

CTRL-x

View the scene from the -X axis.

Aligns the camera so that it is pointing along the negative X axis (from the "back" of the scene).

y

View the scene from the +Y axis.

Aligns the camera so that it is pointing along the negative Y axis (from the "top" of the scene).

CTRL-y

View the scene from the -Y axis.

Aligns the camera so that it is pointing along the negative Y axis (from the "bottom" of the scene).

z

View the scene from the +Z axis.

Aligns the camera so that it is pointing along the negative Z axis (from the "right" of the scene).

CTRL-z

View the scene from the -Z axis.

Aligns the camera so that it is pointing along the negative Z axis (from the "left" of the scene).

u

Undo the last edit operation.

Undoes the last change made to the selected object.

$

Set the current edit operation to be the default.

Makes the last operation used the "default" operation. The default operation can be selected by holding down the CTRL key and selecting the next element upon which you want to perform the operation.

This is useful if, for example, you are performing the same operation on a series of elements and don't want to pick the element from the menu each time you use it.

G

Start global gc (gc t)

Manually forces execution of a gc (garbage collection) operation. This is only necessary if you have selected Notify for Global GC Behavior in the Camera/Preferences/Global menu. If you chose this option, warnings that a gc is necessary appear in the UNIX shell from which you started N-Geometry.
