DUPLICATE

Repetition

The Duplicate->Repetition command is available in all modules except Tools. It makes any number of copies from a selected item (or a group of objects if these are selected using the Multi menu cell). It uses the selected object to create a series of objects. At every duplication, a regular increment is applied on the transformation.

Duplicates are generated according to the parameters set by the Duplicate->Setup command.

Note:

When you duplicate a hierarchy which has a name that includes a prefix, only the duplicate's prefix is renamed. The hierarchy names do not change. For example, if a hierarchy contains an element named left_arm and its prefix is Bob1, its duplicate also contains left_arm, but its prefix is changed to Bob2. This feature preserves name uniformity, which is important because some features, such as applying structure keys or animation, do the mapping according to element names.

Procedure

  1. Select an object or one or more polygons on an object

    Note:

To duplicate polygons, you must be in POL mode: select the object, then select the desired polygon(s) using one of the Polygon (Model Module)->Select by commands. Repetitive duplication of selected polygons achieves results similar to extruding the polygon along a curve using the Surface->Extrusion command in POL manipulation mode.
  2. Choose the Duplicate->Repetition command.

The Repetitive Duplication dialogue box is displayed.
  3. Set the number of occurrences.
  4. Set the transformations.
  5. Click Ok.
  6. A null is created and is the parent of the resulting duplicates.

Parameters

No. of Occurrences

Number of times the duplication and the sequence of transformations are applied.

Transformations

Scaling, rotation, translation applied after duplication of the object. The result depends on which Transformation mode you select: LCL, GBL, and so on.

Example

A series of objects on which a regular transformation is applied as shown in the example below.
