PATH

Digitizer

The Path->Digitizer command in the Motion module is a general purpose effect for digitizing curves and polygon meshes. Digitizer allows you to use a variety of external devices to be used in digitizing curves and polygon meshes.

Procedure

  1. Create a null object.
  2. Choose the Path->Digitizer command in the Motion module. The Digitizer dialogue box is displayed.
  3. Set the parameters as desired.
  4. Select the null object. A one-point curve (or a simple polygon mesh hierarchy) is created.
  5. Deselect the curve (or the polygon mesh) and select the original null object.

To use the Digitizer effect, you must connect the original null object to a channel input device, such as a mouse or a 3D stylus. You can do this using the Channel menu cell commands. Once this is done, choose Channel->Frame I/O and move the null object around.

To add points to your model, press the a Supra key and to add polygons, press the p Supra key; press the i Supra key to invert the last polygon, and the c Supra key to add a closure polygon to your model.

Note:

The Digitizer effect is very useful for digitizing curves, but you may not achieve the desired results on polygon meshes.

Parameters

Model Type

Allows you to specify the type of model to create, either Spline or Mesh (polygon mesh). If you select Spline, specify the type of curve to be created, either Linear, Cardinal, or BSpline.

Threshold for Adding New Point

During the digitizing process, movements less than the value entered are not used to generate new points in the model.
