AnimatedBevel

The Path->AnimatedBevel command in the Motion module is the animated version of the Surface->Bevel effect. It allows you to extrude curves or faces with user-defined bevels and incorporate animations on the components of these operations into the results. As with the Bevel effect, you simply model the curve or face to extrude the profile of the desired bevel. The resulting bevels are guaranteed to be clean with no crossed polygons.

The Path->HrcAnimatedBevel command in the Motion module is the hierarchy version of this effect.

Procedure

  1. Create the outline curve or face and the bevel guide curve. One or both must be animated.
  2. Draw the bevel guide in the xy plane, as described in the procedure for Bevel on Surface->Bevel, and then animate it.
  3. Position the outline curve or face, and the bevel guide.
  4. Choose the Path->AnimatedBevel command. The associated dialogue box is displayed (the same dialogue box as the Surface->Bevel effect on Surface->Bevel).
  5. Set the parameters as desired.
  6. Pick the outline curve, then the bevel guide.

The bevelled model is created and the effect icon appears.

  7. Play back the animation to view the final result.

Note:

The resulting object for the AnimatedBevel effect is always a polygon mesh object. If the capping parameter is set, the result is a hierarchy with the front and back caps as separate nodes.

Parameters

For a definition of the parameters, see the Surface->Bevel effect.
