EFFECTS

PolyGrow

The Effects->PolyGrow command in the Motion module allows you to make polygon mesh models appear or disappear one polygon at a time. Used in conjunction with the Polygon->PolyOrder effect, you can easily create the appearance of an object materializing or dematerializing.

Procedure

  1. Create a polygon mesh model.
  2. Choose the Effects->PolyGrow command in the Motion module. The PolyGrow dialogue box is displayed.
  3. Set the parameters as desired.
  4. Pick the model.

A new polygon mesh model is created with the effect applied to it.

The effect icon appears, indicating that the effect is active.

  5. Play back the animation to view the results.

Parameters

Group Polygons

Allows you to specify that polygons appear in groups. Enter the number of polygons you want to include in each group. This parameter is particularly useful in conjunction with the PolyOrder effect's Group Polygons option.

Start Frame

Sets the frame number at which to start the PolyGrow effect.

End Frame

Sets the frame number at which to end the PolyGrow effect.

Frames Per Second

For the motion timing to be correct, this option must be set to the same frame rate being used in SOFTIMAGE 3D, usually 30.0 or 24.0 frames per second.
