POLYGON

Mosaic

The Polygon->Mosaic command in the Model module allows you to increase the number of triangular polygons for a polygon mesh. This effect is useful for performing subsequent shape animation operations, and when using the Cometa effect. The triangles of the source model are cut in two according to size. The largest triangles are cut first, creating two new polygons that substitute the original.

There is a scene called Evolution in the Rebels database that you can play with, but there is no tutorial for it.

Procedure

  1. Create a polygon mesh model.
  2. Choose the Effect->Convert command in the Model module to triangulate it.
  3. Choose the Polygon->Mosaic command in the Model module. The following dialogue box is displayed:
  4. Set the number of polygons to add, or the total number of polygons desired.
  5. Click Ok.
  6. Pick the model.

A new model is created.

Parameters

Number of Polygons

Set the desired number of polygons.

Minima Area

Adds polygons according to the size of the actual polygon mesh polygons. Values are percentages: a value of 0 means that all new polygons are smaller than the smallest triangle on the source polygon mesh; a value of 0.5 creates new polygons smaller than the median-sized polygons of the source polygon mesh; a value of 1 has no effect since all polygons are already smaller than the largest ones.

Vertices Order

Allows you to orient the vertices of the polygons according to the following methods:

Axes

Allows you to orient the vertices of the polygons along the x, y, or
z-axes on the object. You can inverse the orientation by selecting the Negative option next to the x, y, and z options.

Radial

Allows you to orient the vertices of the polygons radially from the centre of the object. You can inverse the orientation by selecting the Negative option next to the Radial option.
