EFFECT

Symmetry

The Effect->Symmetry command in the Model module allows you to mirror any object or joint about a specified plane by creating a mirror duplicate of the selected object.

Procedure

  1. Select an object.
  2. Position the object in one of the four windows.
  3. Choose the Effect->Symmetry command.

    The Symmetry dialogue box is displayed.

  4. Select the plane or set a specific plane equation.
  5. Click Ok to accept the settings or Cancel to exit the dialogue box.

Parameters

XY, XZ, YZ planes

Mirrors the selected object about the specified plane.

Specific Equation Plane

Allows you to define a specific plane. The object is then mirrored about that plane.

The value in either x, y, or z, which is thought of as the surface normal, is always perpendicular to the surface plane. For example, a value of 1 in x mirrors upon the x-axis; a positive normal in the x direction produces a symmetrical duplicate in this vector direction.
