EFFECT

Push

The Effect->Push command in the Model module allows you to move points on an object in the direction of the object's surface normals. You can specify how far to move the points and the rest is calculated using the vertex normals in the case of polygon meshes, and computing the surface normals in the case of patches, NURBS surfaces, and curves.

The Effects->AnimatedPush command in the Motion module is the animated version of this effect.

Push is often used with the Draw->PolySkin effect to give models a thickness. You can also use this effect to create a border curve around an existing curve. Refer to the Draw->Curve->Border effect.

Procedure

  1. Create an object.
  2. Choose the Effect->Push command in the Model module. The Push dialogue box is displayed.
  3. Set the Push points option to specify how far to push the points of the model in SOFTIMAGE units. You can use negative values for an inverted effect.
  4. Pick the model to which you want to apply the effect.

A new model is created.
